Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

First Haircut

Shaelyn's hair was getting long (which is gorgeous), but it was also stringy (which is not so gorgeous). I decided a little trim was in order - nothing to take away length. Just enough to look even and healthy.

But if you know Shaelyn, you know the prospect of her holding still is a joke.

So how to cut her hair without it looking like a disaster?

The only time of day she'll even let me touch her hair is in the morning when she's eating breakfast. So this time I say "Mommy wants to play with your hair." I don't bother combing it, because I know as soon as she feels that comb in her hair, she will no longer let me touch it. So I gently run my fingers through it, clipping off the ends as I do. Each time she turns around to see what I'm doing, I hide the scissors. I was able to do all her hair in one go (there's not that much).

And the best part is, I'm really pleased with the results. It's still long (so gorgeous) but not stringy (so gorgeous)!
