Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

Parents in Costume

I've worn my fair share of costumes since becoming a preschool teacher. I have no shame when it comes to dressing up to amuse 3, 4, and 5-year-olds. The preschool moms have been impressed with my creative stash of things around the house that can turn into Australian Outback cowgirl costume, a pregnant leprechaun, George Washington (complete with powdered wig), and the Statue of Liberty.

The best is when we play in the backyard and all the neighbors can see what I'm wearing and wonder why I'm wearing it. I've had several inquiries after the fact, once my neighbors got up the nerve to ask.

And who can forget the time the UPS guy showed up when I was sporting the Outback look. The look on his face while I was signing for that package was priceless.

But there's a dad out there who has outdone me. Far outdone me. Every day during the school year, he has dressed up in some outrageous costume, stood on his front porch, and waved at the school bus passing his house - the bus carrying his 15-year-old son to school.

His wife started a blog and posted a picture every day of his latest look. It is hilarious. And very creative. Puts me to shame. See it here.

Man, I can't wait til Shaelyn's in high school . . .
