Have you ever learned about something and wondered "How in the world did I go through my entire life and not know about that until just now?"
'Cause I've just had one of those moments.
How is it possible that I have lived on this earth for over 30 years and I have just now found out about Chinese sky lanterns?
And here I thought those Tangled writers were super creative!
Come to find out they based the lantern scene (the one that makes me cry EVERY TIME) on Chinese sky lanterns.
Check it out.
So what's the best way to end a little girl's Rapunzel birthday weekend? Doing a little lantern lift off of our own.
And as a funny ending . . .
We were able to see the lantern slowly descend far off in the dark. We guestimated about where it had touched down and decided to drive over to find it. Good thing we did, because it had landed in a neighbor's tree. Luckily we had tied the string to the lantern so we could pull it down rather easily. (Except for the scary moment when some still smoldering - and not like Flynn - embers fell out of the lantern and into the tree. 3 seconds of thinking you're about to set your neighbors' tree on fire will get your heart going.)
The whole reason we even went to a nearby field was to avoid this situation altogether. Luckily, there were 4 people standing out on their driveway watching the whole lantern-in-a-tree retrieval.
But it was worth it.
