You're probably thinking we had no fun opening presents on Christmas morning. Au contraire! We had a blast watching Shaelyn open presents and figure out how to play with them. It all started Christmas Eve. We plugged in the lights on the tree and went to sit by it to read the nativity story from the Bible. We had to build a barricade in front of the tree with our dining room chairs because Shaelyn kept trying to unplug the tree and electrocute herself! But that didn't stop her from admiring her presents from afar...
Hey, why does Maggie get to sit on the presents?
I would say she's admiring her reflection, but we all know she's thinking, "What of these things can I destroy?".
I would say she's admiring her reflection, but we all know she's thinking, "What of these things can I destroy?".
Somehow or another, Shaelyn did manage to slip past our barricade and find her Santa presents (aka unwrapped presents) behind the tree. You can tell she's super excited to get these tomorrow morning:
While Shaelyn was sleeping and dreaming of sugar plums (actually, I assure you she was NOT dreaming of sugar plums. She was scheming as to how many times she could get me to come into her room that night...), Michael was busy building all her Santa toys. We placed them under the tree all assembled and took a picture on "Shaelyn level" so we'd know how it would look to her the next morning.
For those of you who don't already know, Shaelyn is a very independent woman, and me trying to "redirect" her at the bottom of the stairs resulted in her throwing a tantrum. Her latest tantrum-throwing position is flat on her stomach, head turned to the side so the screams can get out better, and little legs kicking the floor. The funny thing is, if she would have just looked up, she would have had a very clear shot of her presents!
After we survived the tantrum, she was very excited to see her presents:
And what's a Christmas without a good pull on the "iddy"'s tail?
As you probably noticed, Shaelyn LOVES her new zebra, but at first didn't realize that she could ride it. We had to put her on it so she could figure it out.
Later that night, she figured out that she could get on the zebra herself, and had a blast riding it!
Hope you all had just as merry of a Christmas as we did!
