Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

Wheel of Fortune

Our poor little girl has been sick all this last week. This is the sickest she's been in this short little life of hers. She had a fever for 4 days that we couldn't really shake, a stuffy nose, a sore throat, and an awful cough. She was just pathetic. Of course, stuffy nose and congestion equals no nursing, no paci, and no fun!!! I always seemed to be wiping her face because she had a never ending supply of snot! I wiped so much I finally rubbed her face raw and we had to start putting Vaseline on her face. Poor girl!!!
Can you see how raw her right cheek is? It got even worse than this!

Anyway, we did the humidifier in the room, elevated her mattress, did the nasal saline spray, tried to give her lots of fluids, but the one thing that did the trick was Dimetapp. I waited giving it to her until the 4th day, and I wish I would have given it to her right away. I got all paranoid with all the recalls of children's cold medicines I didn't want to give her anything, but next time I'll go straight for the Dimetapp again. She could breathe within 20 minutes every time! She's doing better now, though still needs the occasional nose wipe. And of course she hates it! But she's being more brave and not crying every time...

But the real kicker is that she's been a PILL all these sick days. We have discovered that the only two things that can calm her down are her toy train that's actually a Christmas present (but she's been playing with still in the box, so we haven't technically given it to her yet, right?!?) and Wheel of Fortune. This girl LOVES Wheel of Fortune. I don't know if it's Vanna's winning smile or Pat's witty banter with the contestants (who doesn't love those things?), but she is mesmerized. We put her on our lap to watch and it's the only time she'll sit in your lap for 30 minutes straight without squirming to get down.

She loves when people spin the wheel and everyone claps. She usually claps, too. And of course, people are yelling out letters, so it's educational, right? It's become a M-F family affair. Michael and I are getting really good at solving the puzzles. They give away so much money on that show, we think we should figure out a way to get on there. We would really clean up! Oh, and we totally feel middle aged - after Wheel of Fortune we usually watch Jeopardy as well.

As a side note, Michael and I have been intrigued by the "end-of-the-show" banter between Pat and Vanna. Pat seems to be totally in love with her, but they are both married to different people. It's very akward to watch him flirt with her. Evidently, they've been at it for years, because I found this little gem on You Tube:
