Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

"Super" Halloween Fun

We had our annual Fall Festival at our church, complete with a chili cook-off (we did not have an entry), costume parade for the kiddos, and trunk or treat in the suddenly very cold parking lot. I made Shaelyn's costume this year (keep an eye out for my "making of" post...), and had pressure to get it done by our festival, not Halloween. But now Shaelyn can wear it more times than just the 31st.

As many of you know, Shaelyn is obsessed with Super Why! and carries her Super Why doll everywhere she goes (lovingly just called "Supah"). On the Super Why! website, there is an option to design your own super hero, where you get to pick your coordinating Super suit colors and the emblem on your chest. When playing the game, Shaelyn was very adamant that her suit be pink ("kink") and purple ("puh-pull"). We emailed the picture she created to my mom, and she hung it on the door of Shaleyn's room when we went to visit my parents. The sign said "Super Shaelyn" and then pictured a cute cartoon blonde girl in her pink and purple Super outfit. Shaelyn loved the picture and kept pointing at it/talking to it the whole time we were there. So I designed her costume after the Super outfit she picked out on the website. I think it turned out great! Throughout the sewing process I would show it to Shaelyn. She didn't know what it was until I put the book emblem on the chest, then every time she saw it, she would shout out "Supah" and try to take the costume from me. She carried it around for a while the day before the festival. Needless to say, she knew exactly who she was supposed to be when we got her dressed Saturday evening.

Since that video is so grainy, we took another one while we were at the church so you can see her costume better. She's passing right by the nursery door in the video and gets very excited to go in. You can also see my costume: I swallowed a pumpkin. (It's the same thing I wore when I was pregnant with Shaelyn. Poor Rachelle, already getting hand-me-downs and she's not even born yet.)

We had a great time at the Festival. We tried about 17 different varieties of chili (I didn't eat any of the spicy ones) and just enjoyed watching Shaelyn run around with her best friend Clara (who was dressed up like an ER doctor). Shaelyn had a blast running around outside during the trunk or treat, but wasn't all that excited about getting candy. She's been carrying her pumpkin around the house empty for so long, she got mad when people tried to put candy in it. So I ventured around to get candy for her. Two people were giving out her favorites: fruit snacks and Teddy Grahams. By the end of the night, she realized that candy was supposed to go in her pumpkin and I finally found two pieces in there.

But her favorite part was this one trunk decked out with ghosts (a Halloween favorite of Shaelyn's), complete with a ghost that moved and made noises when you clapped. Shaelyn laughed hysterically at this thing until we we had to drag her away to head for home. She was frozen and exhausted, but happy to be Super Shaelyn!

We took a bunch of pictures of the night. Enjoy!

Good shot of her Super emblem on her chest.
Don't let her fool you. She does NOT want you to put candy in there!
Little best friends getting ready for trunk or treating.
Letting that Super cape fly!
This girl is so beautiful it seriously stops my heart sometimes.
Have a "Supah" Halloween!
