Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

Pickin'

Once more, everyone else has a post about a local tradition, and I take 20 years to get mine written. We've been really busy this past week. I feel like I haven't even had a chance to breathe, much less blog, so you, my dear readers, were given the shaft. Sorry about that.

One fun NC spring/summer-time activity: strawberry picking. There are several farms to chose from. You get your berries for around $1/pound. And they are SO GOOD. So red, so juicy, so sweet.

You sweat. Your back aches. Your fingers get stained red. But you get 9 pounds of berries for $9! And then you have to figure out what to do with them all before they go bad. Because what we learned this year - if you pick your berries late in the season, they will start to go bad before you even get home. So you'd better eat them as quickly as you can in the car. Luckily my family was up for it.

I ended up making 16 cups of strawberry freezer jam. With tons of sugar. So it's not so much healthy as delicious. And it gave me a really good reason to use my new food processor my MIL gave me. But it made a full-sink's worth of dirty dishes.

Luckily, Michael's really good about doing the dishes.

And they make really great stain remover for toddler-strawberry stains.

PS - If you're still pushing your baby around in a stroller instead of "baby-wearing," let me suggest you make the switch. You'll be glad you did.

PPS - I have become known as the "sling mom" among the moms at the library. I get stopped in grocery stores, at the playground, at the doctor's office, even last night at a baseball game (several times) - so that moms can ask me where I got my sling. It's an Ultimate Baby Wrap. (I think the cheapest price is on amazon.com.)

PPPS - Where's my endorsement check from UBW? Seriously, I'm a walking advertisement for them.
