Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

Things I want to learn

A while back I did my list of threes, and one of the categories was "things I want to learn". I could only think of 2 things, and they were both pretty lame. After reading other people's list of threes and thinking more about it, I came up with a much better list of things I would love to learn before depart this life. Some of them are a little more realistic than others.

* Play the piano (I can play the flute, but that's not as great for accompanying FHE hymns...)

* Play bass guitar (for real, not Guitar Hero) - I would love to rock out on stage just once

* Bake yummy pastries and other yummy food from scratch (you know, like a gourmet)

* Teppanyaki cooking (especially how to make the pineapple volcano)

* Investing (and really investing, not just what the different types of options are. I would like to trust myself to do a lot of my investing, like on E*Trade, but I have no idea what I'm doing. But I'd like to think that no one else really does, either, and they're just going off of market trends and averages like the rest of us)

* Photo editing and photography

* Wall art (like murals and things you see in kids' rooms)

* Film editing (see Jackie or Andrew's blogs for examples of what I would like to be able to do)

* Money saving tips (I'm starting to learn. You know there are just those people who know how to be frugal - what websites to go to for coupons, what days to buy gas the cheapest... These are things you have to learn, they're not just common sense)

* Patience (obviously a long way to go in this department, but I think I'm doing better now that I'm a mom)

* How to enjoy cleaning (I don't think I'll EVER learn this one)

* Great choreography (I'd love to do a trip to NYC and just take a bunch of workshops)

* Floral arranging

* Sewing (I can mend things, but I'd like to sew things, like really cute little outfits for Shaelyn and curtains for the house)

* Upholstering (for when I get sick of my green couches)

* Meditation (why can't I get my brain to SHUT UP?!?!)

* Professional hair/makeup applications

* Fashion knowledge (you know, like on "What Not to Wear" - they really help people dress for their body and put together really snazzy outfits. I'd like to dress like that, but what I end up doing is putting together and shirt and pants (or skirt) that match. Boring!)

* Cable knit, and other knitting patterns that I don't know

* The rules of soccer - people have tried to explain it and I get the gist, but perhaps I would enjoy it more if I understood all the intricacies.

* More about cars (to know if I'm getting ripped off and maybe even how to repair a few things on my own)

* Speak French fluently - I was so close for a long time and I let it fade...

* More emergency preparedness type things, like how to cook with my food storage, and how to work a generator.

* Ballroom dancing

So not an exhaustive list by any stretch, but things I have thought about and would like to learn. Some of these I'm already working on and trying to improve, others I have plans to do in the near future, and others are on the list simply as things to think about, knowing that I probably will never have the talent to actually do them. Anything you want to learn that you would add to my list?
