I've never been a big "romantic" Valentine's Day fan. Michael and I never get each other presents. It's right after Christmas, and our budgets are always tight. But one year when I was working, Michael did spring big and sent me 24 long-stemmed red roses to work. I was very surprised and very touched. But if he did that every year, it wouldn't mean so much.
Now that I have kids, I really look forward to holidays like Valentine's Day and Easter and Halloween, where you get to do fun crafts and decorate and make food shaped like stuff. I really should have been a kindergarten teacher. Anyway, I had all these fun things planned to do with Shaelyn leading up to V-Day, but I guess I forgot to factor in having a newborn, because none of those things happened. I do have a few things up my sleeve for tomorrow. We'll see if they come to fruition.
But in the meantime, my mom did buy the girls V-Day outfits, so I had to capture all their girly cuteness. And we did take Shaelyn to storytime at the library today, where she got to do one of her favorite things: PAINT. So she painted us some V-Day placemats. I love them. And we'll do more crafty stuff next year when she's 3 and will (hopefully) be more excited for stuff like that.
PS - Grapefruit, if my kids don't have the same childhood your kids are having over there, I'm going to be majorly depressed. So quit settng the bar so high! You're making the rest of us look bad!
