Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

PINK Eggs and Ham... or Roll

Totally unrelated to the post, but I have realized that it was much easier to blog with another adult home all the time. Now that my mom's back in AZ and Michael's back at work, blogging just hasn't happened. I've been "working" on the this post for 5 days now. And I also noticed while I was typing this that I have some baby poop on my sleeve. This is the "clean" shirt I changed into after Rachelle spit up all over the last one.

But onto the real reason for the post. While my mom was here, she cooked breakfast for us every morning. We discovered that Shaelyn will eat breakfast as long as it's french toast and scrambled eggs. Unfortunately, that's a pretty high standard to maintain when you're exhausted from being up with a newborn all night. So Valentine's Day was the first day since my mom went home that I actually got up and cooked breakfast. So we ate at 11:30. So what? It was still breakfast, right?!?

I made my yummy orange rolls, but added red food coloring to the butter and sugar glaze to make the rolls pink. I also added red food coloring to the eggs and the milk. I was worried Shaelyn wouldn't eat any of the food because it was different and she's so picky, but she loved it. In fact, when we sat down to eat lunch and her food wasn't pink, she requested that I get her some pink food instead.

Later that day, we made Valentines for each other. I let Shaelyn use markers to color her Valentines. She is very into markers right now, because they are "big girl colors" - as opposed to crayons. But you've got to make sure she only gets a hold of washable markers, because the real reason she loves to color with them is because she can do this:

Her hand turned out to be a really good Valentine, especially after she got through decorating it with heart stickers.

I've now been home with both girls alone for a week, and we've had mainly good days with a mix of some crazy moments. My two biggest complaints: 1) Shaelyn is into EVERYTHING right now - everything must be touched, turned on, moved, opened, etc. This is much worse than the phase she was in from 12-18 months where she just threw everything around. Because this involves a higher skill set with much more dexterity. 2) Rachelle tricked me with her "I'm the easiest baby in the world" routine. She is still easier than Shaelyn was in some ways, but she's definitely starting to give us a run for our money. Jeanine, I blame you for jinxing me! :) Last night I was losing my mind, but hopefully things will get easier as my capacity to deal with it increases. Let's all hope!
