Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

A Week in Pictures

I took some time off the blog. (2 weeks as it turns out). And people thought I had died. No, seriously. I got voicemails... emails... snail-mails (well, not the last one)... People were seriously concerned.

So here I am. Behind on all my posts. But humor me, please, and read them anyway.

Waaaaaaaay back in September, Michael took a vacation out to Utah with his best friend, and left us girls here alone. For a week.

Now before you go all Michael-hating on me, you should know that this trip was planned a year and a half ago. Back when BYU first announced that they would be playing FSU in their 2009 schedule. Michael and his best friend Brian, being the Gator fans they are, obviously hate FSU. So the chance to see BYU beat FSU seemed like something too good to pass up on. (And turned out to be too good to be true!) And since Michael's family all lives out in Utah, and we never get out there, a boys' weekend getaway turned into a week-long trip for Michael sans us.

On the Friday before Michael went out of town, his boss pulled him in to her office to say the following:
"So, let me get this straight. You lived the bachelor life for 2 weeks while Shelley dealt with a freaked-out toddler at her parents', and now you're leaving her home alone for a week while you go out and have a good time with your friend?"
Seriously, I love that woman!

While Michael was gone, both girls had a fever at one point or another, Rachelle spent one night throwing up, it rained 5 of the 7 days he was out of town, and I had to do church alone. To avoid focusing on the negative things going on that week, I took pictures of the things the girls and I did and emailed them to Michael every night.

I loved this exercise for the following reasons:
* it made it easier to have the "what we did today" talk with Michael
* he really enjoyed getting his daily updates of his girls
* I realized how cute my girls really are on a daily basis, even if all we're doing is sitting in the house for days at a time
* it forced me to get creative so I would have something to photograph!

Although I harbored feelings of jealousy while Michael was gone, I'm glad he got to go and have a good time. He's been really stressed with work lately, so it was nice for him to get a break.

Now we're busy planning mine...

Enjoy the week in pictures. I highly recommend this exercise!
