Women are like lionesses at the gate of the home. . . . She guards that gate, and things matter to that family if they matter to her. . . . Sisters, you are each like the lioness at the gate. This means that there has to be some prioritizing. I was taught years ago that when our priorities are out of order, we lose power. If we need power and influence to carry out our mission, then our priorities have to be straight.

Top Ten Reasons Why...

...I love October:

10. It's finally cool enough outside that you don't feel like you're going to die of heat stroke just stepping out your front door (unless you live in AZ - then you always feel that way).

9. The rest of the year just seems to fly by. Which I really loved when I was working, hated my job, and looked forward to ANY day off, even if it was just one or two because of all the holidays slammed together.

8. It starts the chain reaction of celebration at my house: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Shaelyn's birthday, Christmas, New Years', Rachelle's birthday.

7. You start to wear more bulky clothing, so all that food you eat at all those celebrations doesn't show as easily.

6. You are allowed to dress up, eat candy, and decorate your house with reams of construction paper, and people think you're "crafty" and "fun."

5. The leaves are changing colors. And when you live in the same state as the famous Blue Ridge Parkway, that's a very beautiful thing.

4. Everything smells good. Like "apple spice" and "cinnamon harvest" and "pumpkin delight." And everyone starts baking. And somehow or another everyone bakes "too much," because they all end up at my door with goodies in tow and the excuse that "my family couldn't eat all this." If you don't have friends like these - GET FRIENDS LIKE THESE!

3. The month has it's own COLORS. So it makes your family calendar/blog/house/refrigerator look that much more festive.

2. People put pumpkin in EVERYTHING. And I love pumpkin. Especially pumpkin spice donuts at Krispy Kreme. (Man, thank goodness for the bulky clothing!)

1. Because you can make the two O's in October into little jack-o-lanterns when you write it out. And who doesn't love doing that?
